We needed to show positive results on both benchmark and commercial designs. I conducted three large studies, six months of work each. The first simply showed that we could compete with published benchmark studies.
Even though the benchmarks consisted of hundreds of difficult circuits, most of which were components in commercial designs, the engineering community did not trust academic results. So we also optimized some large and messy commercial designs. Extensive details follow. |
